Embracing wellness for 2025 and beyond

We’ve all heard the common phrase, “new year, new you”. No doubt, a lot of us look on January as a time when we can quit bad habits that are holding us back in our careers and personal lives and make new goals. And yet, breaking our new year’s resolutions is almost as easy as making them. Perhaps some the goals we set ourselves are simply too difficult to achieve, leading to a sense of failure. For example, setting extreme weight-loss targets or trying to do too much exercise might not only be unrealistic, they could also be dangerous.

So, with that in mind, why not focus on what really matters: your personal wellbeing. Here are some ideas that won’t break your spirit and will get 2025 off to a great start.

Step away from the smartphone

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest distractions we face each day is our beloved smartphones. Not only do our devices eat up a large chunk of our time, the need to constantly stay connected by checking every notification can have a negative effect on our mental health. Instead, try to reduce your screen time by a few hours each day. Set yourself limits about how often you check your social media channels. You might find you become more focused at work and your personal relationships grow stronger.

Eat local, eat well

In Hong Kong, where the majority of our food is imported, it can be difficult to source local produce – but it is possible! Vegetables are grown here and various other items, such as honey, are being made in the city. So consider buying locally if you can. Not only your food will be fresher and full of nutritious goodness, sourcing ingredients grown or made in the city helps to reduce your carbon footprint. What’s to lose?

Good vacay vibes

We all look forward to holidays and travel. In Hong Kong, we are blessed with having some truly stunning destinations just a short flight away. And while time off is a chance to unwind and forget our cares, all too often we overindulge in food, partying or even risky sporting or adventure activities. Instead, why not make your next break all about good health. Ditch the pool party for a spa or wellness retreat, or consider yoga or even meditation to improve both your body and mind.

Check in with doctor

No-one looks forward to a health check-up. The fear of “what if?” is something that crosses all our minds, as well as “I’m sure I’m fine”. But that aside, the benefits of regular health checks cannot be overestimated. Keeping tabs on your physical health is important for your overall wellbeing, especially as you get older. So in 2025, make it your mission to routinely visit your doctor. That way, you can catch any potential problems early.

What’s more, you should consider taking out healthcare insurance. If an issue is identified during a health check, depending on its severity you might require surgery or a considerable period of time in hospital. These situations can put a severe burden on your finances. Healthcare insurance helps to relieve this burden, giving you the peace of mind to focus on getting better. Don’t forget to secure healthcare insurance prior to your health check, as pre-existing conditions are excluded from coverage.

So whatever goals you set for the year ahead, try not to put too much pressure on yourself and take everything in your stride. And remember – your health and wellbeing come first, always.
