Be Prepared for Typhoon
At MSIG, we are committed to going above and beyond to safeguard your well-being by providing timely support and protection.
As a typhoon is approaching, there may be the prospect of damage to property, vehicle and lives; traveling may be impacted as well. If your home or property is damaged, you can file your claims through EASY Claims.
Here are a few handy tips for you and your family to deal with a typhoon.
Home
- Consider applying transparent adhesive tape to your windows.
- Inspect and reseal areas at risk of water leakage.
- Unplug your washing machine on your balcony, tie up the power cable and tape up the electrical outlet.
Claim tips*
Move damaged household contents away from the affected area, and then take photos of the scene and the affected items. Also report damaged building structure to the property management office immediately.
Motor
- Avoid parking vehicles near piers.
- Ensure all doors and windows are tightly shut.
- Avoid parking vehicles in underground car parks
Claim tips*
Vehicles damaged due to adverse weather: If you have insured with a comprehensive motor insurance policy, it will cover the cost of repairs and any necessary car rental service. We also offer a cashless windscreen repair service. Once you report your broken windscreen to us, we will refer you to our windscreen repair vendor, Xinyi. For your convenience they can come to your carpark to carry out repairs. You don’t need to pay or complete any forms, or submit any supporting documents. All you need is your driving license or vehicle registration document.
Travel
- Check in online to receive the latest flight information via SMS or email.
- Book hotels that offer free cancellation.
Claim tips*
Trip cancellation: If your scheduled flight is delayed for more than 24 hours due to adverse weather in Hong Kong, you can make a claim online by uploading the confirmation letter issued by the airline. If your accommodation is flooded or seriously damaged following bad weather, you may also claim the cost of the unused and unrecoverable travel and accommodation deposits, including hotel, theme park or overseas local tour package costs, upon presentation of the receipt.
Trip curtailment: You will be covered for unused and unrecoverable travel and accommodation deposits if your trip is cut short and you return to Hong Kong before the scheduled return date.
Travel delay: If the number of hours you are delayed meets the minimum required hours, you can make a claim.
Trip rearrangement: If your trip is unavoidably re-routed from the planned destination or you are forced to return to Hong Kong due to adverse weather, you can claim (1) the unused and unrecoverable travel and accommodation deposits, or (2) the additional transport and/or accommodation costs.
Extension of period of insurance: We will automatically extend the cover period of insurance to a maximum of 14 days if your trip is delayed or is rearranged due to adverse weather.
