Senior Manager, Underwriting

Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in underwriting reviews and approvals for Property & Casualty risks referred by business teams, implementation and ongoing maintenance of agreed underwriting policies and standards to ensure the long-term profitability of business
  • Manage the non-Marine Underwriting Team and ensure quality technical services are provided in a timely manner
  • Perform regular portfolio review, whistle-blow any adverse trends detected, provide constructive feedback and recommend corrective actions to senior management and business teams in addressing any arising issues to ensure sustainable profitable business growth
  • Provide technical advice in company-wide or channel-specific product revamp or development initiatives, when required
  • Closely collaborate within Underwriting sub-teams and business teams and provide technical supports on regular production underwriting operations for various main classes or products (including Property, EC, Motor and SME packages) to facilitate effective implementation of marketing and underwriting strategies on company level
  • Active participation in various IT projects on enhancing data infrastructure and provide insightful feedback to support the on-going digital transformation within underwriting and reinsurance operations
  • Respond to enquiries raised by regional office or local insurance authority on the performance and claims trend of respective business classes
  • Assist SVP in ensuring smooth administration of underwriting and operational matters at team level

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree holder, prefera​​bly in insurance-related disciplines
  • Possess professional insurance qualification such as ANZIIF or ACII is preferred
  • At least 8 years' work experience in general insurance preferably with underwriting knowledge in Property & Casualty
  • Experienced in leading small team with good supervisory skills
  • Mature, independent, result and customer-oriented, self-motivated, business acumen
  • Good analytical, statistical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • A good team player to support different stakeholders
  • Good PC skills in O365
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese
