Upcycling Umbrella Bag Workshop 2023

11 Aug 2023

As we embrace our sustainability goals of protecting biodiversity and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, we recently organised an Upcycling Umbrella Bag Workshop on August 3, 2023.

22 of us gathered to participate in this workshop, which was supported by the St. James' Settlement Jockey Club Upcycling Centre. The motive behind this initiative was to encourage our colleagues to find more sustainable alternatives to non-biodegradable, disposable plastic bags for storing their umbrellas after use.

We created our unique, stylish and eco-friendly umbrella bags by utilising leftover umbrellas and absorbent towels donated by hotels. What made this experience even more special was knowing that the materials we used were prepared by people with mobility challenges.

As we entered the workshop, we were presented with a wide variety of discarded umbrellas in different colours, allowing us to showcase our creativity by choosing our favourite hues and patterns. We then had the opportunity to put our sewing skills to use.

It was eye-opening to witness the transformation of old recycled umbrellas and towels into stylish, functional, and eco-friendly umbrella bags. Not only was this workshop a fun and educational experience, but it was also a significant step towards a sustainable and more eco-friendly future.

Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming green activities!
