Planning a vacation can now be more like ordering appetizer, main course and side dish at a restaurant as the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched a new tourism product called "Green-a-la-carte". The initiative lets tourists pick and choose "dishes" in the form of green tourism programmes, which offer a chance to sightsee, encounter nature and contribute to the protection of local environment and biodiversity.

Green-a-la-carte menus are presented under four categories: appetizer, main course, combo set and dessert. Activities range from exciting outdoor adventures to calming indoor experiences and relaxing massages, catering to diverse tastes and preferences.

Green Appetizer is designed for tourists looking for a place where they can relax, such as national parks across Thailand, traditional villages, canals, green farms and more. Some activities involve meeting local people and staying at their homes for an up-close appreciation of Thailand's conservation efforts and natural heritage. Other green tourism ideas include green dining, traditional dessert workshops, etc.

Green Main Course offers more "dynamic" options, such as Chiang Mai Segway tour, rare sailing yacht tour, open air meditation, tour of floating market and so on. Green Combo is mainly focused on visiting different neighbourhoods for a variety of sights and experiences, including traditional temples, museums, natural rivers and street wall art. Tourists can take in the harmony between culture and nature as well as the balance engendered by biodiversity. A highlighted area in Bangkok is Thonburi district's Kudi Chin neighbourhood, which features a unique architectural style combining Thai and Portuguese influences not seen elsewhere in Thailand.

Last but not least, Green Dessert is perfect for those who love natural foods, organic ingredients and traditional handicrafts. It can also be an ideal way to wrap up the trip: enjoy a fantastic meal, pick up traditional Thai crafts for souvenirs and then luxuriate in a relaxing traditional hammer massage.
