Enjoy festive activities to the max protected by Personal Accident insurance

The fiercely hot days of summer are long gone, and many of us in Hong Kong are now looking forward to the festive period to come. Cooler weather heralds the season of gatherings with loved ones, whether it’s Christmas, New Year’s Eve or Chinese New Year.
Over the coming months, families will get together to share their joy in one another’s company. Whether it’s going out for large family meals with all your relations, or attending special gatherings such as weddings, it’s likely that you’ll find yourself attending at least one event in the near future.
Many families in Hong Kong love to celebrate by taking advantage of our city’s breath-taking natural activity by indulging in outdoor activities. These often include hiking, taking boat trips to remote islands or visiting family members who live more distantly, such as in China – when travel is once again possible!
For most healthy adults and teenagers, outdoor activities are perfectly safe, but young children or the elderly might need extra care or supervision. If you are planning to set off on some outdoor adventures with your loved ones during the festive period, you should strongly consider taking out Personal Accident insurance to protect you financially in case unforeseen accidents occur.
Different types of cover for the festive period
At MSIG, we offer a range of Personal Accident insurance plans for a range of scenarios and circumstances, and two have particular relevance during the festive period.
The first, Accident Insurance, allows you to tailor coverage for you and your spouse, your children and even your parents – depending on your needs – based on four plans. As well as providing protection against accidental medical expenses and worldwide personal accident coverage, the plan also features Dangerous Sports Coverage – and this could prove very useful during outdoor activities.
For example, during Mid-Autumn Festival, Mr Chan takes his son, who is a 20 years old full-time university student and is covered by Accident Insurance Child Plan, on a scuba diving trip to Ung Kong Chau near Sai Kung. The dive goes well until the last few moments, when Mr Chan’s son accidentally injures his leg on a sharp reef. Upon surfacing, it becomes clear the young man will require hospital treatment – possibly stitches and perhaps even a tetanus booster. Under the plan, Mr Chan’s son is covered up to HK$20,000 for accidents, so the medical expenses associated with his injury are taken care of.
The second plan, iSafe Accident Insurance, is suited to large families as it offers coverage for up to eight children, aged from six months to 17 years, on the same premium. This makes the plan especially attractive if you are planning to travel abroad, and its Worldwide Personal Accident feature covers accidental death or permanent disablement for up to HK$1,000,000.
Another notable feature of this plan is its Triple Indemnity on Accidental Death benefit when travelling on public transport in the Greater Bay Area. For example, if someone were travelling in the Greater Bay Area to see their family, as a fare-paying passenger on a train, and there was a fatal crash, the insured’s accidental death benefit would be tripled, bringing much-needed financial support to their loved ones in their hour of need.
So, regardless of how you intend to spend the upcoming holiday season, please make sure you have adequate protection against the unforeseen. That way, you can make the most of those precious moments with those you love, and enjoy the festivities with complete peace of mind!
