MSIG Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited ("MSIG") and Heep Hong Society jointly organized the charity initiative "A Year of Empowerment", a year-long program of enriching life experiences for children with special needs. On 16 June, a group of Children with Autism and Asperger Syndrome visited the elderly centre to celebrate the Tuen Ng Festival. The occasion allowed them to serve another needy group and learn how to express love and care to the elderly. It was considered to be the most memorable experience to these children and their families.
These children visited the non-profit-making elderly centre in Mongkok with the guidance of MSIG volunteer team, where they learned to express care to more than 70 senior citizens through fun and games participation. Moreover, the children were able to perform magic tricks and presented gifts to the elderly. All of them spent a most enjoyable afternoon together.
"We set out to find opportunities to support children withAutism and Asperger Syndrome, so that they can help care for other needy group. It's through this kind of experience that their horizons can be expanded. We also hope that the children and their families find the event fulfilling. In the coming months, we will continue to arrange similar visits of this kind." Kenneth J. Reid, Chief Executive Officer, MSIG said.
The central theme of "A Year of Empowerment" is to provide an opportunity for children with Autism and Asperger Syndrome to experience life. Every week, the volunteer team from MSIG will join Heep Hong Society's social workers and therapists to jointly organize activities for the children, with an aim to educate them about acceptable social behavior. The scheme provides opportunity for parents to communicate and form a strong support network to share experience amongst them. MSIG hopes that the scheme can provide support as well as memorable life experiences to these children and their parents. At the same time, MSIG company staff can also serve the community through this volunteering service.
